Mixing your own blend

There is no 'perfect blend' for houseplants. Each component has a property that effects the overall performance of the blend. Once you identify the conditions your plant needs, you can have a go at creating a blend that will provide these conditions. The end result will depend on the growing conditions and aftercare as much as on the blend itself. Below are some recipe suggestions, but don't hesitate to adapt these based on your research.

Terrarium Recipe

This mix is perfect for either a closed or open Tropical terrarium. For an open terrarium with cacti and succulent plants, use the cacti & succulent blend.

African Violet Recipe

This mix works well for African Violets. The high Perlite, Zeolite and Sand content in this mix ensures good drainage, but be sure not to overwater.

Citrus Tree Recipe

This mix works for citrus. The free draining yet heavy mix allows for drier conditions with the ability to hold nutrients. Try adding coffee grounds to low the pH for Lemons.
